Towards a More Representative Legal Profession:

Better practices, better workplaces, better results (Law Society of British Columbia)

The Law Society of British Columbia is committed to the principles of equity and diversity and
believes the public is best served by a more inclusive and representative profession. The demographics of the population in BC have shifted dramatically in past decades. The demographics
of the legal profession, however, do not reflect these changes. Visible minority lawyers and
Aboriginal lawyers continue to be under-represented in BC.

Law firms are encouraged to consider the competitive advantages of increasing diversity, in
order to meet clients’ demands for diversity in legal representation, to better serve an increasingly diverse society, and to attract, retain and advance the best and brightest lawyers, particularly young lawyers from a generation with expectations of equality.
